School Profile

Park Ridge Primary School is located on a 3.6 ha site on the south-eastern border of the City of Knox within the suburb of Rowville. The school shares close links with the neighbouring primary schools, of Lysterfield, Heany Park and Karoo and works closely with the eastern campus of Rowville Secondary College, which is located on the school’s southern boundary.

Currently, Park Ridge Primary School has an enrolment of approximately 609 students of which 20% are from a background other than English. The current population of the school reflects a Student Family Occupation and Education (SFOE) of 0.3269, placing our school in the ‘high’ category for overall socio-economic profile.

The school’s vision is “Empowering students to acquire, demonstrate, articulate and value knowledge and skills that will support them, as life-long learners” with the consequence that the focus of student learning has been the development of sound Literacy and Numeracy skills which are regarded as the tools necessary to support thinking and learning.

The school comprises 18 permanent and eight portable classrooms. In addition, the school boasts a Gymnasium, Library, Intervention room, Art room and Music room. Courtesy of the federal government sponsored “Building the Education Revolution” program a multi-purpose centre was constructed. This building is used during school hours for assemblies, incursions and specialist classes, and houses a well-resourced and popular before and after school care program. The school boasts significant all weather surfaced playing areas as well as large grassed areas and two adventure playgrounds for student recreational and sporting activities.

The current school staffing profile is comprised of 36 teachers including 2 Leading Teachers, 3 Principal Class Officers and 13 Educational Support Staff members.

In 2017, the school offers specialist lessons in Music, Art, Physical Education and LOTE (Indonesian) across the school, with the addition of Science in Years 3-6.

The school maintains the designated average class size of 1:21 at Years Foundation-2 and, with flexible workforce planning, is able to maintain an average class size in Years 3-6 under 25 students per class.

All classes have regular access to digital technologies tools to support the learning process. Classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards and students in Years F-1 have access to at least four desktop computers in each classroom and class sets of iPads. Students in Years 2-6 have regular, timetabled access to suites of laptops provided for each year level.

To support student learning, reading intervention programs are provided across the school.  The Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI) program is undertaken for students achieving below expected levels in Reading in Years 1 and 2 and implemented by Education Support Staff.

The current major curriculum focus for the school is the full implementation of the Victorian Curriculum with particular emphasis on improved performances in English and Mathematics.

Park Ridge Primary School has successfully implemented a Positive Education Program across the school, over the past four years. This program has been enhanced over the past two years through collaboration with Tom Brunzell, from Berry Street, who has worked closely with classroom teachers and school leadership to embed the Berry Street Education Model throughout the school.

The school places special emphasis on providing quality feedback to both students and parents/carers. To facilitate this provision, considerable use has been made of Compass School Manager as a tool, introduced in 2015, to provide student and parent feedback and to online mid and end of year reports to parents/carers.

A strong parent community supports the school’s endeavours. Led by a dynamic School Council, the school community works to provide additional resources that can best benefit all students.

The school will conduct its four-yearly review in 2017 from which a new School Strategic Plan will be developed for the period 2018-2021.
