Nightly Reading

Does your child have an established home reading routine?

It’s not rocket science but the more children read independently for enjoyment the better their reading progresses. The following table makes very interesting reading. How much time does your child spend reading for enjoyment each night?  (In the younger classes, I would also include time where parents read to their child)

NB: 90th Percentile = 90 out of 100

I think 33 minutes per day is very achievable.

Rotary Public Speaking Competition

Last Friday, I had the privilege of judging the Year 6 Rotary Public Speaking Competition. Our selected students then progress on to the Interschool competition conducted early in August. For most adults, public speaking is one of the scariest things that they could possibly do. At Park Ridge we cultivate oral language skills. From the first year in Foundation, we are developing the skills of public speaking.

The standard this year of our Year 6 students was fantastic. They spoke with confidence, they used changes in their voice for effect and the content and props engaged the audience. Good luck to Jack, Leisl and Shuree who will be representing our school at the next level.

Parent Opinion Survey

On Monday, randomly selected parents would have received a link to access the Parent Opinion Survey. Information from this survey helps guide future School Council directions. I would like to thanks those selected families for giving up their time to complete this survey. Results from the survey are returned to school later in the year.
