Physical Education News

Over the past month, our students have been part of some exciting programs during their PE lessons. Our Year 5 and 6 students have been learning how to play Rugby League during clinics delivered by Len Mason from the Melbourne Storm. I’ve been impressed with how the students have been able to develop an understanding of the game of Rugby League in such a short period of time.

Students in Years 3 and 4 have been engaged in a striking and fielding unit delivered by Tony Black from Softball Victoria.

Both programs were delivered at no cost to families and feedback from both coaches has been overwhelmingly positive. Len and Tony commented on the outstanding behaviour of our students, noting that we are a school that they have particularly looked forward to coming to this term.

Any chance children get to learn a new activity should be approached with a growth mindset and to be coached by experts in their field is a great opportunity. I’d like to thank both the Melbourne Storm and Softball Victoria for their time and effort at Park Ridge.

Girls Footy

Last Friday, 21 girls from Year 5 and 6 competed at the Knox Division Girls Football Carnival. Our girls have been training over the last few weeks and have improved out of sight in preparation for the day. I think they have particularly enjoyed the tackling part of footy! Overall, Park Ridge finished in 7th place on the ladder out of 20 schools and our girls even got to experience a short  skills clinic with a number of VFLW players as well as Sarah Perkins from Adelaide in the AFLW.

Congratulations to Issy C who won the Best & Fairest medal and a $50 sports voucher as voted by the umpires in our pool of schools.

Girls footy is the fastest growing sport in Victoria. If your daughter is interested in playing for a local team, Rowville Football Club are offering all new girls to footy the chance to play the rest of the 2018 season for free. If this offer interests you, contact Kath Callaway on 0421200228.
